Helen's Heart

So my precious Helen's heart stopped today. For those of you who aren't in the know, Helen is my lovely 1997 Subaru Outback Sport. She's a great little car- always reliable, forever spunky, gentle on gas, and incredibly safe.

I got up early to head out to work, aimed my alarm remote at my car and.....

Just that. Nothing.

My heart broke as I unlocked the door and wasn't greeted by her characteristic beep. Val, my knight in shining Ion that he is drove me to and from work. When we got home we tried to jumpstart her, all with no luck. No beeps, no turnover, absolutely nothing. Finally we drove to Sears, invested in a $90 Diehard battery, popped it in- and voila!!! Helen beeped back to life.

So here's the thing... Why would someone want to invest $90 in a battery named Diehard? Wouldn't you want it to be a gentler, more user-friendly name? Something like "Liveslong" or "Drivestrong" or "Willnotbreakdowneveripromise?" The last thing I would like to put into my poor already-dead-car would be something named "Diehard." I think she already did die. Hard, in fact.

Thankfully, the product is much better than the name.
