Happy New Year!

I've just finished cooking and devouring the last meal of 2011. Alderwood salmon with potlatch pilaf, sauteed spinach and rosemary roasted sweet potatoes. It was amazing, which is indicative of how wonderful 2011 has treated us.

We're saying goodbye to this year quietly. Just my husband and I, Casa Crustante, and a few bottles of Belgian beer:

Leffe brune, the one we drank with every meal while we were in Belgium, La Trappe Quad (my personal favorite), Delirium Tremens, La Fin du Monde, La Chouffe (the traditional style along with a holiday bottle), Duchesse de Bourgogne, Ommegang, and various friends.

I get pretty emotional anthropomorphizing our little house. Last year it sat here, all alone, gutted, holes in the walls, no insulation or electricity. And this year, we're living in it, and it has been such an amazing home to us that we hate to leave it for a single night. The simplest chores have become acts of love, little tokens of our affection for our tiny domicile. It makes us so happy. It is limited in space, sure, but it is completely full of love.

Happy New Year from those of us at Casa Crustante! Rest assured that we will raise a glass in your honor.

  1. Clearly, we need to swap emails! You can email me at jessikap (at) gmail (dot) com. Same wavelength folks need to chat. :)

  2. Sounds like you had a wonderful, relaxing New Years Eve. We too spent the evening rather quietly, starting with a brief visit to a friends play-date party for the kids and then to my folks who live by the library. We played games and left 15 minutes after the ball dropped.

As for the too may eggs, could I interest you in a dozen? I know how it is waiting for the girls to start laying. Just like a watched pot not boiling...

  3. Happy New Year. That's how we spent new year's too.

BTW, will you be rechristening the house with a new name? I mean... Sure, it was once Casa Crustante which is cute. But it's more like Casa Charming now...

  4. Indeed, Jessika! We really do need to swap emails. Incoming email, ahoy!

Thank you, Sinfonian! That sounds like a lovely way to spend the passing of the year! Thank you very much for the offer on the eggs, but I already have a dozen sitting in my fridge that I haven't used for a week. :( I need to really up my egg usage before April gets here!!

You're too kind, Pear! Thank you for the kind words on our little house. :) If you could see how filthy it is right now (I've been having a rough year so far - I haven't been sleeping and been feeling very ill, I've been very negligent on my housewife duties!) you'd see just how much Casa Crustante fits.. lol! I don't know, I had thought of renaming it but I think I'm still very proud of the word Crustante to let it go!
